Taylor Gold Label 814e — Where Vintage Soul Meets Tomorrow's Craft
Some guitars play notes. This one tells stories.
The Taylor Gold Label 814e is unlike anything that's come before it — a guitar born from a genuine obsession with the warm, lived-in magic of prewar flat-tops, rebuilt from the ground up with the kind of innovation only Taylor could deliver. This isn't a reissue. It's a reimagining.
At the heart of the Gold Label 814e is Taylor's all-new Super Auditorium body — a shape with slightly longer curves and a wider lower bout, drawing inspiration from classical guitar proportions to give every note more room to breathe. Paired with Fanned V-Class bracing set with traditional hot hide glue, the result is a low end that feels fully integrated, mids that sing with complexity, and treble that shimmers without ever thinning out.
The torrefied Sitka spruce top — roasted through Taylor's proprietary process — skips the decades-long break-in period and arrives already speaking with the warmth, depth, and responsiveness of a guitar that's been played for generations. Back that up with solid Honduran rosewood back and sides — one of the densest, smoothest rosewoods on the planet — and you have a tonal pairing that's both powerful and nuanced.
Taylor's new Action Control Neck with long-tenon joint improves resonance and wood coupling while making string height adjustments effortless, keeping the playing experience as refined as the sound. The West African Crelicam ebony fretboard glides underhand, and the wider nut width welcomes fingerstyle players as easily as it rewards a heavy strummer.
Plugged in, the LR Baggs Element VTC electronics faithfully translate every nuance — warm, natural, and free of coloration — making the 814e just as compelling on stage as it is on the couch.
Visually, the Gold Label 814e is a statement in understated elegance: mother-of-pearl Continental inlays, grained ivoroid trim, antique chrome Gotoh 510 tuners with ebony buttons, a revised headstock silhouette, and a full-gloss body finish that lets the stunning wood grain do the talking.
This is Taylor's finest. A guitar with an old soul, a modern mind, and decades of music still waiting inside it.
