O. DiBella Music is one of the oldest family-owned music retail businesses in the country.
Founded in 1910 by Italian immigrant Onofrio DiBella as a sheet music publisher, the company originally served the Italian immigrant community in New York City by producing ballo liscio (lively dance) music. The store moved from 2nd Avenue to 116th Street in New York City in the 1920s, and the O. DiBella catalog quickly became part of the standard repertoire at Italian weddings, festivals and dances.
In the late 1930s, Michael DiBella Sr., joined the business and started to sell musical instruments. Over time, the family business evolved from publishing into a full-service musical instrument retailer.
In 1968, Michael DiBella Sr. relocated the store to Bergenfield, New Jersey. In the mid-1980s, his son Michael DiBella, along with his brother Anthony DiBella and brother-in-law Harry Muscariello, expanded O. DiBella Music’s retail presence. By 1999, they had completed construction on its 13,000-square-foot showroom in Bergenfield, where it remains today.
More than just a store, O. DiBella Music is a community. As 45-year veteran Jim K. puts it, "There used to be a million mom-and-pop shops. While we’ve grown beyond that, we’re still a single storefront, family-owned, with a team that truly knows their craft. The DiBellas have always been good to their customers and treat their employees like family. That’s why we’ve been here for so long."

Our Space
Our 6,500-square-foot showroom features dedicated areas for print music, digital keyboards, drums and percussion, guitars and amps, and orchestral instruments. Below, our lower level houses ten lesson rooms, a full-service repair shop, and warehouse space. Specialized rooms showcase basses and amps, high-end guitars, and professional audio and lighting equipment.
